Sheet Metal BIM Detailer

Houston-based commercial sheet metal contractor that specializes in the fabrication and installation of HVAC ductwork systems for large-scale commercial construction projects.

The Sheet Metal BIM Detailer is responsible for producing coordinated duct shop drawings along with other BIM related deliverables in timely manner. This position serves as a link between BIM, project management, the field, and the fabrication shop. The Detailer models the ductwork following system classifications, coordinates with other trades and building components and produces drawings for fabrication and installation purposes. This role requires strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and a technical understanding of sheet metal fabrication and installation.

Key Responsibilities

•  Review Contract Documents (Plan and Specs).

•  Review Submittals and accurately model sheet metal equipment.

•  Download, Import, and check Architectural, Structural and Mechanical Cad (or Revit) backgrounds.

•  Model ductwork, equipment, equipment pads, slab penetrations, hangers, etc.. (In AutoCAD or Revit).

•  Utilize Navisworks to coordinate duct systems with other trades.

•  Attend weekly coordination meetings.

•  Produce Shop Drawings, Hanger Drawings (GTP or Dimensioned), Pad Drawings, Slab & Wall Penetration Drawings, Fabrication Drawings.

•  Generate Grille and Damper Takeoffs for vendor release.

•  Provide equipment handings for vendor release.

•  Monitor and stay on top of any design changes throughout the project.

•  Coordinate deliverables with project managers, shop foreman, field foreman and general contractors.


Qualifications

•  3+ years of experience in sheet metal installation.

•  Experience in Modeling Sheet Metal with AutoCAD and/or Revit.

•  Knowledgeable with Navisworks and/or other coordination tools

•  Strong understanding of field installation methods and workflows.

•  Ability to read and interpret Architectural, Structural and Mechanical Contract documents.

•  Familiarity with SMACNA standards and basic sheet metal construction principles.

•  Strong attention to detail and ability to handle high demand schedules.

•  Clear communication skills and willingness to ask questions when clarification is needed.


Preferred Skills

•  Understanding of pressure classes, gauges, connectors, and reinforcement logic.

•  Experience supporting sheet metal field and shop needs.

•  Basic computer skills (Excel, Bluebeam, Outlook).

•  Ability to work collaboratively across departments (BIM, Fabrication, PM, Field).
